IFMSA at the UNs Climate Change Summit COP16

The International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations (IFMSA) is attending the United Nations Climate Change Conference (the peak negotiations often referred to as COP16) in Cancun, Mexico with 6 delegates. We acknowledge climate change as an enormous threat to global health in the 21st century, and call for human health to be placed at the centre of UNFCCC international negotiations where it will stand as an effective framework from which to build a fair, ambitious and legally binding global deal. In this, we seek to preserve a society which promotes equality, avoid future conflicts and environmental refugees, and safeguard the right to health for all countries and all peoples.

This is direct follow up after the COP15 in copenhagen last year, and will be the benchmark for IFMSAs efforts towards decision makers to recognise health as an important motivating factor in the climate change negotiations.

Our delegation:

  • Arthur Cheung – Australia
  • Charlotte Holm – Denmark
  • Daniela Andia Milan – Bolivia
  • Nick Watts – Australia
  • Sudhvir Singh – New Zealand
  • Usman Mushtaq – Norway

With support from Unni Gopinathan (Norway) and Roopa Dhatt (USA)
